Homemaker Services

Home management, cleaning, and homemaker assistance with personal care — the three authorized homemaker types.

Homemaker Services

Homemaker services are a basic support service under Minnesota Statutes 245D.03 and are defined under the CADI, BI, CAC, DD, and Elderly Waiver plans. Minnesota authorizes and pays for three distinct homemaker types (see Minn. Stat. 256S.202): homemaker home management, homemaker cleaning, and homemaker assistance with personal care. Your case manager authorizes the type that matches your needs, and staff are assigned accordingly.

What's included

  • Homemaker home management — meal preparation, shopping for food and supplies, simple household tasks and errands the person cannot do
  • Homemaker cleaning — light housekeeping such as vacuuming, dusting, dishes, bathrooms, laundry, and changing linens
  • Homemaker assistance with personal care — household tasks plus cueing and hands-on help with personal cares during the visit
  • Delivered in the person's own home on a schedule set in the support plan
  • Cleaning-only companies and Department of Health licensed home care agencies are excluded from this 245D service
