Positive support services are an intervention support service under Minnesota Statutes 245D.03, subdivision 1(c), and are defined under the BI, CADI, CAC, and DD waiver plans. A qualified professional assesses why a behavior is happening, then designs positive, skill-building strategies that replace it — documented in a positive support transition plan when restrictive practices are being phased out. Minnesota's 245D positive support rules prohibit aversive and deprivation procedures, and our staff are trained and monitored against those standards.
What's included
- Functional behavioral assessment to understand the reason behind a behavior
- Written positive support strategies and, where required, a positive support transition plan
- Teaching replacement skills, coping strategies, and environmental changes
- Staff and family training so the plan is used the same way by everyone
- Data collection and regular review with the person, family, and case manager
- No aversive or deprivation procedures — prohibited under Minnesota 245D rules
